Samyr 400 mg / 5 ml — Ademetionine Injections
Samyr 400 contains ademetionine, also known as S-adenosyl-L-methionine or SAMe. This naturally occurring compound participates in cellular metabolism and has attracted interest for its roles in mood and liver function.
The injectable presentation contains 400 mg of ademetionine per powder vial, supplied with solvent for preparation immediately before use.
Cellular Metabolism, Liver Function and Recovery
Ademetionine is discussed in the context of recovery after physical exertion, including the post-competition research described below. Its biological functions involve metabolic pathways in liver cells and nervous tissue.
Samyr's active ingredient, S-adenosyl-L-methionine, participates in the production and modification of biologically active compounds needed for normal cellular function. Research has explored its hepatoprotective, anticholestatic and antidepressant properties.
These roles connect ademetionine with liver metabolism, detoxification pathways, cellular maintenance and antioxidant defence. They describe its biological rationale, rather than guaranteed benefits from an injection or an immediate “one-day detox.”

Product Information
What Is Ademetionine?
Ademetionine is a natural compound present in the body's cells. It participates in metabolic reactions associated with proteins, hormones and neurotransmitters. This wide-ranging biological role has made it a subject of research in emotional wellbeing, liver health and joint symptoms.
Samyr 400 provides ademetionine in an injectable pharmaceutical formulation. Its clinical use should be distinguished from the broader discussion of SAMe as a nutritional supplement.
Samyr and Mood
The Italian prescribing information lists depressive syndromes as Samyr's indication.

Ademetionine and Liver Health
SAMe has been studied in cholestasis, cirrhosis and other liver disorders. Its involvement in liver metabolism explains this interest, but clinical findings remain inconclusive. These research areas should not be presented as additional approved indications for the Italian Samyr product.
Joint Symptoms and Fibromyalgia
Research has also examined SAMe for osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia. Osteoarthritis findings are mixed, while fibromyalgia evidence is insufficient for firm conclusions. Findings from oral supplements or animal studies cannot automatically be applied to Samyr injections.

Ademetionine in Sport and Post-Competition Recovery
Ademetionine has been investigated during recovery after intensive competition, particularly for changes in immune function. A 2018 study followed 34 competitive biathletes: 18 received ademetionine for one month after competition, while 16 recovered without it. A separate group of 32 healthy people provided reference measurements.
The researchers reported more pronounced recovery of several immune markers in the treated athletes. The study examined blood markers rather than race times, strength or muscle growth, and did not describe randomization or placebo blinding.
This provides a specific example of sports-related use during the post-competition period. It does not establish a performance-enhancing effect or validate an injection schedule for Samyr 400.

Composition
Each vial provides 400 mg ademetionine. The solvent contains L-lysine, sodium hydroxide and water for injections.
Administration and Treatment Course
The Italian leaflet describes one 400 mg vial daily for 15–20 days, with possible continuation using tablets as prescribed. The powder is reconstituted with the supplied solvent immediately before use. Intravenous administration is slow and performed by medical personnel.
Do not mix with other medicines, particularly alkaline or calcium-containing solutions. Discard unused solution.
Precautions and Possible Side Effects
Possible adverse effects include nausea, abdominal discomfort, diarrhoea, headache, dizziness, anxiety and insomnia.
SAMe may trigger mania in people with bipolar disorder. Interactions are possible with serotonin-increasing medicines and supplements, including antidepressants, tryptophan and St John's wort; it may also reduce levodopa's effects. These combinations require clinical review.
Allergy and certain inherited methionine-metabolism disorders are contraindications. Seek urgent help for severe allergic reactions or suicidal thoughts.
Storage
Store the injectable presentation at no more than 30°C, out of children's reach. Use immediately after reconstitution.
FAQ
Is ademetionine the same as SAMe?
Yes. SAMe is another name for S-adenosyl-L-methionine, also called ademetionine.
What does “400 mg / 5 ml” mean?
The powder vial contains 400 mg of ademetionine and is supplied with 5 ml of solvent for preparing the injection.
Is Samyr injected into a muscle or a vein?
Both routes are described. The prescribed route determines how the medicine is administered.
Can treatment continue with tablets?
Yes, an injectable course may be followed by oral treatment according to the prescription.
Is it suitable for bipolar depression?
SAMe can worsen mania. People with bipolar disorder should not use it for depression without specialist supervision.
Can it be taken with an antidepressant?
Only after a prescriber checks the combination, because interactions with serotonin-related treatments are possible.
